Everything Is a Poem

Born on Oʻahu and now based in California, Kaʻeo writes original poems on a vintage green Olympia typewriter for guests at luxury resorts and private events. Trained in linguistics and Arabic, he spent a season as an Arabic interpreter. He still writes the way an interpreter works: by listening first. Each guest shares a moment, and he translates it into a poem they can keep.

He is the author of two collections, Everything Is a Poem (2025), winner of the International Impact Book Award, and Turbulence & Tenderness (2026). He is a 2026 California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellow, and his work has been featured on ABC30.

Every poem is written for one person, signed on the back, and never written ahead of time.

A man with dark hair, glasses, and a smile, wearing a black and white floral shirt and a beaded necklace, is sitting at a table with a typewriter, various papers, and a potted plant with red leaves in a glass vase. The background features curtains, a window with a view of trees, and a beige armchair.
